真理大學的由來必須從傳教士馬偕博士說起，加拿大籍的馬偕博士是長老教會的傳教士，他在1882年於現今真理大學校園內創立理學堂大學院（就是大家熟知的牛津學堂），牛津學堂的設置開啟國內女性受教育的權利，因此其歷史的意義不容小覷。承襲馬偕博士對教育的重視，淡水工商管理專科學校真理大學的前身）於1965年設置，1994年改名為淡水工商管理學院，1999年改制為真理大學（Aletheia University）。以三H理念為辦學宗旨：人道、謙遜、幽默
