北京怀柔响水湖长城自然风景区位于慕田峪西部，属明代长城，距北京78公里，距怀柔县城28公里，总占地面积18平方公里，响水湖风景区融长城、古洞、山川、泉潭、飞瀑、明代摩崖石刻于一体，是京郊又一处得天独厚、秀丽多姿的旅游胜地。响水湖的得名并不是因为有很大的一片水域，而是在泉水的源头，泉涌如注、水响如雷，千米之外便可听到流水的响声，故得名"响水湖"，系怀柔第一大泉，是附近百姓的饮用水源，也是怀柔水库源头之一，每秒钟出水0.3立方米，日流量25937吨，水质甘甜、清爽可口。
