本會於民國62年4月8日成立迄今。以發展舉重運動，辦理全國性及國際性之舉重活動，藉以提高技術水準，增進國民健康，發揚體育精神為宗旨。在政府的支持與各屆理事長及秘書長循序漸進的帶領下，舉重運動有傲人的成績。
